Stewart gets win, Brockert gets championship

COLUMBUS JUNCTION, Iowa (Aug. 27, 2010) – CJ Speedway  held its 2010 season championship for the modified division Friday night, Aug. 27, and it was Daniel Brockert claiming the track title for 2010. Brockert won the title but it was Steve Stewart taking the checkered flag in the modified feature race. Also getting feature wins were Kirk Kinsley, Wapello (IMCA Stock Cars), Alex Buffington, Wapello (hobby stocks), Bill Whalen, Riverside (4 cylinders) and Troy Philpott, Muscatine (Mod Lites).

COLUMBUS JUNCTION, Iowa (August 6, 2010) Point race action continued at Columbus Junction’s CJ Speedway with four drivers getting repeat wins and one driver getting his first win of the 2010 season. Taking the checkered flag in feature events were Lane Kauffman, Muscatine (hobby stocks), Troy Philpott, Muscatine (mod lites), Geoff Theobald, Wapello (4 cylinders), Kirk Kinsley, Wapello (stock cars), and Steve Stewart, Burlington (modifieds).  The Iron Man Challenge $200 bonus went unclaimed when no racer was able to win features on Thursday, July 29 and Friday, Aug. 6. The challenge was issued to any driver who could win feature races in the stock car, mod lite or 4 cylinder divisions during the Corn Belt Clash (July 29) and the Louisa County Fair race (July 30) which was rained out and rescheduled for Aug. 6.

Simpson notches another win in Dart Corn Belt Clash Late Model Series

COLUMBUS JUNCTION, Iowa (July 29, 2010) – In its eleventh race of the fifteen race series, Chad Simpson, Mt. Vernon continues to dominate. Simpson captured his eigth feature win in eleven races at CJ Speedway, Columbus Junction, Thursday, July 29. An added event to the Louisa County Fair that is in progress, the series drew 18 late models for the $2000 to win 30 lap feature.
Through 10 of the 15 events, Simpson leads the point race with 476 followed by Jason Rauen, Farley, 418, Chris Simpson, Oxford, Ia, 402 and Jason Utter, Columbus Junction with 386.  Utter returned to his hometown track where he began his racing career back in 1998 as a hobby stock driver before moving to the late model division.  Living just 2 miles away from the track, it was a chance to show his hometown fans how far he has come finishing in third.

Late Model Corn Belt Clash coming to CJ Speedway today

COLUMBUS JUNCTION, Iowa (July 29, 2010) –  The Cornbelt Clash for late models will be coming to CJ Speedway, Columbus Junction, IA on Thursday, July 29  in the fourteenth schedule stop of its original sixteen race schedule.
The Corn Belt Clash is unique compared to other Late Model series, in that it provides an opportunity for Late Model drivers and teams all over Iowa and the surrounding states to come and race together, regardless of what rules package they normally race under.  You’ll see visual evidence of the rules in the form of the cars that normally race under the IMCA banner. 

Faler edges out win in flag to flag IMCA Stock Car feauture

COLUMBUS JUCTION, Iowa (July 16, 2010) – An exciting IMCA Stock Car feature kept fans on the edge of the seats as Columbus Junction’s, Billy Faler took the checkered flag. Jason Hartman, Muscatine (hobby stocks), Bill Whalen, Riverside (4 cylinders), Paul Hallet, Muscatine (mod lites) and Daniel Brockert, Grandview (modifieds) also got repeat wins on the night as racing action continues at CJ Speedway.

Three get first time wins on Mid Season Championship night at CJ Speedway

COLUMBUS JUNCTION, Iowa (July 9, 2010) – Three racers got their first CJ Speedway wins at the Louisa County track on Caseys General Store, Tyson Fresh Meats Mid Season Championship night Friday, July 9. Paul Hallett, Muscatine (mod lites), Daniel Brockert, Grandview (modifieds) and Tad Payne, Muscatine (IMCA stock cars) all took feature wins  with Wapello’s Geoff Theobald (4 cylinders) and Alex Buffington (hobby stocks) both getting repeat victories. The kids enjoyed a candy dash and gunny sack races as well. Point race action will continue this week, with racing in all five classes on Friday, July 9.
The modified makeup feature from July 2 took to the track first with Steve Stewart, Burlington, in  his Tony Stewart Racing Shop, Washington, IA, modified taking the win. Stewart took the lead from Daniel Brockett on lap three and never looked back.

Rossell, Theobald, Kauffman and Simmons get wins at CJ Speedway

COLUMBUS JUNCTION, Iowa ( July 2, 2010) –d Cole Simmons, Morning Sun, came away with the win in the Wapello Auto Parts IMCA Stock Car Firecracker 25 Friday, July 2 at CJ Speedway collecting the $1500 to win prize. Other winners for the night included Greg Rossell,  Knoxville,  Ill., (mod lites), Geoff Theobald, Wapello (4 cylinders) and Lane Kauffman, Muscatine (hobby stocks). Coming up this Friday, July 9 will be Mid-Season Championship night with racing in all five classes.
The hobby stocks took to the track for the first feature of the night with Muscatine’s Lane Kauffman getting the win in the eight lap feature. Kauffman held off Wapello’s Alex Buffington to win by just three car lengths.  Wapello’s Brodie Dopler finished third. Buffington also took the checkered in the heat race.

CJ Speedway Firecracker 25 now $1,500 to win

COLUMBUS JUNCTION, IA – Celebrate the Fourth of July early at CJ Speedway this  Friday, July 2nd with the IMCA Stock Car Firecracker 25, sponsored by Wapello Auto Parts and now, Kurt’s Garage, Wapello. Kurt’s Garage will add another $500 making the total to win the 25 lap feature $1500.
The 25 lap IMCA Stock Car feature will be at  draw/redraw show. $50 to start, and there is no registration fee for the stock cars. Also racing will be the Modifieds, Hobby Stocks, 4 Cylinders and Mod Lites as they battle for points.

Simmons holds off Payne to pick up second IMCA Stock Car win

COLUMBUS JUNCTION, Iowa (June 11, 2010) – Racing action at CJ Speedway continued last, Friday, June 11, with three new faces getting their first feature wins this year at the Louisa County track. Alex Buffington, Wapello (hobby stocks),  Jonathan Huston, Columbus Junction (mod lite) and Brad Tyler, Wilton (modifieds) all got their first wins this season while Morning Sun’s Cole Simmons (IMCA stock cars) and Geoff Theobald, Wapello (4 cylinders) both raced to their second feature wins of the year.
Wapello’s Alex Buffington returned to action in the hobby stock division this week and got his first feature win this year holding off Lane Kauffman of Muscatine. Buffington took the lead from Kauffman on lap six and had to hold off a challenge by Kauffman at the end to take the checkered flag by a car length for the win.

Two of five features won by inches at CJ Speedway

COLUMBUS JUNCTION, Iowa (June 4, 2010) – Two of the five feature races at CJ Speedway  Friday, June 4 were won only by inches in the tracks third race of the season. Getting wins Friday night were Bill Whalen, Riverside (4 cylinders), Jason Hartman, Muscatine (hobby stocks), Adam Bell, Kalona (modifieds), Greg Rossell, Knoxville, Il (mod lites) and Nathan Wood, Keswick (IMCA stock cars). Point races will continue Friday, June 11 on Holmes Concrete Night for all five classes.
The hobby stock feature was small but could still provide an exciting finish for the fans. Jason Hartman and Lane Kaufman, both of Muscatine, battled back and forth for the lead early on with Hartman working to hold off Kaufman. But moving into second on lap seven was Alex Buffington, Wapello. Buffington tried to pass Hartman in turn three but couldn’t complete the move. Hartman led Buffington and Kaufman down the front stretch, all three running bumper to bumper. As the passed the finish line, Buffington had pulled up along side of Hartman but Hartman was able to cross the finish line first for his first win ever.
