Neal takes LM checkers, Guss takes track championship

DAVENPORT, Iowa (Aug. 27, 2010) — Way too soon, Friday was Kile Motorsports Season Championship night at the Davenport Speedway. Track champions were crowned in all five weekly divisions, under perfect weather conditions for a change.
The Petersen Plumbing an d Heating – IMCA Late Model feature had all the drama and plot twists of a Hollywood movie. Ray Guss Jr., came into the night leading both the track points and the IMCA Late Model national points, with a slim lead over Terry Neal. Guss started on the pole position and quickly built a sizeable lead.

Davenport Speedway season championships Friday

DAVENPORT, Iowa (August 23, 2010) – After the Great Mississippi Valley Fair and a pair of rained out events, the 2010 Davenport Speedway regular season will draw to a close this Friday, August 27th.
The 2010 season has been a wet one at the Davenport Speedway, as seven rainouts has shortened the season down to nine races, including Friday’s Season Championships.

DAVENPORT, Iowa (August 10, 2010) -  After the annual break for the Great Mississippi Valley Fair, the Davenport Speedway is primed for some dirt track stock car racing. Beginning with this Friday, August 13th, only three point races remain in 2010 season and the battles for the track championships will be contested every lap along the way.
The 2010 season has been a wet one at the Davenport Speedway, as a handful of rainouts has shortened the season considerably. It has also helped to keep the point standings tight in all five weekly divisions.
The Petersen Plumbing & Heating IMCA Late Model season has been an exciting one to watch as seven different drivers have captured feature wins in the eight races held this season. Ray Guss Jr. (Milan, Ill.) has one feature win and leads the point standings with 306 points. Mike Garland of Morrison, Ill., is currently second and heads a list of five drivers that are within 13 points of one another. Garland is followed by Matt Ryan, defending national champion Kevin Blum, Mark Preston, and Stephan Kammerer.
Guss is also leading the IMCA Late Model National point standings as well. Nine of the top twenty drivers in IMCA National Late Model Points have competed in weekly action at the Davenport Speedway this season.

No races at Davenport Speedway this Friday, July 30

DAVENPORT, Iowa (July 26, 2010) – Conflicts with the set-up schedule for the Great Mississippi Valley Fair has forced this Friday’s racing program at the Davenport Speedway, to be cancelled. DRT TRAK Racing Inc., regrets any inconvenience caused by this action.
The racing action will return to the quarter-mile dirt oval on Friday, August 13th. That evening will be Kile Motorsports’ Kids Night, starring Crumbo the Clown, and featuring bike races. Kids 12 and under admitted free with paid adult.

Davenport Speedway cancelled tonight, July 23

DAVENPORT, Iowa (July 23, 2010) — Rain has washed out the evening’s stock car racing program at the Davenport Speedway. Heavy rains late Friday afternoon, has made track preparation on the quarter-mile dirt oval impossible for tonight.

The racing action will resume next Friday night, July 30th, weather permitting.

After eight races this season, the 2010 point leaders at the Davenport Speedway are:

Buesling becomes first Late Model repeat winner

DAVENPORT, Iowa (July 16, 2010) – In addition to a great night of dirt track stock car racing action, the fans were given a chance drop their favorite drivers in a dunk tank for a good cause. The Davenport Speedway Kid’s Club was sponsoring the dunk tank, with proceeds going to Karsyn’s Krusaders.
The streak of different feature winners in the Peterson Plumbing & Heating IMCA Late Models is over. Nate Buesling became the first Late Model driver to repeat a visit to victory lane in 2010. His other win came June 11th.

Davenport Speedway Kids Club announces schedule for Dunk Tank on Friday

DAVENPORT, Ia. (July 14, 2010) – The Davenport Speedway Kid’s Club will be raising money for a very special cause during the stock car racing program at the Davenport Speedway this Friday, July 16th. The Kid’s Club is sponsoring a dunk tank to raise money for Karsyn’s Krusaders.
Karsyn’s Krusaders is an organization committed to “Kickin’ Cancer’s Butt One Lap at a Time”. The mission of the organization is to create awareness and fundraising initiatives within the racing community to further the efforts of non- profit organizations which help positively impact the lives of individuals who have been affected by cancer and other life-threatening illnesses, with emphasis on childhood cancer.

Murphy becomes seventh different Late Model winner at Davenport

DAVENPORT, Iowa (July 9, 2010) – Friday was Diercks Family Racing Night at the Davenport Speedway. In addition to the weekly stock car racing program, there were bike races for the kids and an appearance by Crumbo the Clown.
Mike Murphy, Jr., became the seventh different Petersen Plumbing and Heating IMCA Late Model feature winner in as many races at Davenport this season. Murphy passed Ray Guss, Jr., for the lead as the two were coming to the white flag and pulled away on the final lap. Murphy found a groove to his liking in the middle of the racetrack and used it to power past Guss, who was on the bottom of the slick track. Guss held on for second with last week’s winner Mike Garland third. Kevin Blum finished fourth, after starting in the last row. Nate Buesling was fifth. Bret Diercks and Mark Preston were Late Model heat winners.

Garland earns IMCA Late Model win at Davenport

DAVENPORT, Ia. (July 2, 2010) – Fans and racers alike kicked off the July 4th weekend with dirt track fireworks, Friday at the Davenport Speedway. The Midwest Jalopies’ racing coupes were also racing as an added attraction.
Mike Garland of Morrison, Illinois, roared to victory in the Petersen Plumbing and Heating IMCA Late Model feature. Garland started third and battled with pole sitter Marty Diercks for the lead through the first half of the race, swapping the lead several times. In lapped traffic, Garland dove under Diercks on lap twelve and took the lead for good.

Preston, Dominacki get Mid-Season wins at Davenport

DAVENPORT, Iowa (June 25, 2010) – The first Friday of Summer brought the Mid-Season Championships to the Davenport Speedway.  Despite the three inches of rain that fell this past week, the racetrack was fairly dry and firm, providing for some great racing action.
Mark Preston, of Port Byron, won the Petersen Plumbing and Heating IMCA Late Model feature in dominant fashion, leading 24 of the 25 laps. Preston took the lead from Leroy Brenner on lap two, en route to his first win of the season. Behind Preston, there was fierce competition for the remainder of the top five spots.
Stephan Kammerer held second until late in the race when Ray Guss, Jr., muscled his way into the number two slot. Kammerer held on to finish third, just ahead of Kevin Blum. Matt Ryan rounded out the top five.
