Racing to a Cure for ALS Night at Jackson County Speedway

MAQUOKETA, Iowa (Aug. 22, 2010) – The Season Championship races at the Jackson County Speedway on Saturday, August 28th, will take on additional meaning this year, as racers and fans help to raise money to fight ALS, also known as Lou Gehrig’s disease.
Racing to a Cure for ALS Night will be filled with great racing action and fun activities for kids and adults alike. There will be a duck pond, a bean bag toss, and face painting for the children, while the adults will get a chance to soak their favorite driver in the dunk tank. The activities will begin at 5:00pm, with proceeds going to the Iowa ALS Association & ALS Walk – Team Oberbreckling.

Swindell wins second straight Front Row Challenge

OSKALOOSA, Iowa (August 9, 2010) – Sammy Swindell drove to his second straight win in the 14th Annual Musco Lighting Front Row Challenge Monday night at the Southern Iowa Speedway in Oskaloosa, Iowa.  The veteran had a pass for the lead negated by a caution before he took advantage of leader Tyler Walker’s blown left rear tire on the 22nd lap.  The win in the Big Game Treestands #1s was worth $10,000 to theGermantown, Tennessee resident.
Vienna, West Virginia’s Cale Conley set a new one lap track record on the 1/2 mile oval with a circuit of 15.222 seconds.  Swindell, Fred Rahmer and Cap Henry enjoyed contingencies from HRP Wings, Keizer Wheels and Hubs, Sander Wheels and Butlerbuilt for heat race wins.  The top eight qualifiers making it through their heat races participated in match races dubbed the “King of the Hill”.  In the finale, Walker and Joey Saldana raced side by side for two laps with Saldana nipping Walker at the line for the title.  Jonathan Allard scored a set of headers from Schoenfeld for his win in the B main.

Shepp’s finally gets second night of 2010 under its belt

Unzicker, Griffaw pick up wins, as do Smith, Garrison, Wisher
ALEXANDER, Ill. (May 9, 2010) – While Mother Nature continued to reek havoc up north, Shepp’s Speedway was able to get it’s second weekend of racing in the books, Suandy.
Ryan Unzicker picked up a UMP Late Model win against a solid field of cars, while Rusty Griffaw got the UMP Modified win. Roger Smith took home the Street Stock win, with Shane Garrison winning the UMP Sportsman feature and Eric Wisher outlasting the field in the Hornets.
Brandon Sheppard took the second spot in the Late Model feature, followed by Kyle Logue, Steve Lance and Rusty Schlenk.

Quad City Speedway finally gets opening night in books

Guss, Jr., continues early season late model domination, Crampton gets mod win
EAST MOLINE, Ill. (May 9, 2010) – Ray Guss, Jr., is currently the IMCA Deery Brothers Summer Series Late Model points leader, and he showed why, Sunday, in taking the opening night win at Quad City Speedway.
Doug Crampton won the A-Mod feature event, while Jack Waterman was the IMCA Mod feature winner. Greg Gill took home the Street Stock win, and Shane Kelley won the 4-Cylinder event.
Guss, Jr., has been strong all year and will likely remain that way all season long in the Roberts Racing 58 machine. Rob Toland was a solid second, followed by Matt Ryan and Mike Murphy, Jr. Nate Bueseling rounded out the top five, in a sold field of IMCA Late Models.

Spring Creek Speedway opens 2010 season

Lantz, Behning, Bartz, Oelberg, Ostby get feature wins

MACOMB, Ill. (May 8, 2010) – Wyatt Lantz made his stop at Spring Creek Speedway worth while, as he picked up the top spot in the A-Mod feature event, while Brunson Behning and Rudy Oelberg dominated the micros and street stocks respectively.
In other action, Jerry Ostby held of Chuck Fullenkamp for the 4-Cyinder win, Kelly Bartz picked up a win in the B-Mods.
In the A-Mod feature, Wyatt Lantz and Josh Foster started side-by-side on the front row, but while Lantz ran away to hide trouble began quickly for Foster.
Foster looped his ride from outside the front row in the first corner bringing most of the outside row to a stop in a pile. He returned and came back to finish fifth.

34 Raceway cancels, May 8, Avcom cancels practice

MIDDLETOWN, Iowa (May 8, 2010) – For the third week in a row, 34 Raceway has cancelled its scheduled racing action for tonight. A lot of rain over night Thursday, combined with very cold temps that have not allowed drying has caused the postponement. Also playing a part in the decision, unofficially, but understandably, was the fact that it is expected to be below 40 degrees by 8 p.m.
According the schedule, there will be no Late Models on the schedule next week, which means late models will not start their point season at 34 Raceway until May 29, when they run with the Ideal Ready Mix Sprint Invaders.

The practice scheduled for tonight at Avcom Park Speedway has been cancelled. Another practice is scheduled for next weekend.

Birkhofer wins $10,000 at West Liberty

WEST LIBERTY, Iowa (May 1, 2010) – Brian Brikhofer came home Saturday night, and got paid well for doing it.
He took home the $10,000 payday in the Open Late Model portion of the SPI special event at the 1/2 mile West Liberty Speedway. Check out our photos link to see pics from action last night.

Quad City still on, Quincy cancels May 2

Quad City Speedway is still on for tonight, in East Moline, with $1,000 to win IMCA Late Models. It is a points night at the racetrack.
Down south, however, Quincy Raceways is forced to cancel for the second week in a row. Racing looks to hit the track again next Sunday, on Mother’s Day.

AVCOM Park Speedway play day pushed back a week

AVON, Ill. (April 27, 2010) – Mother nature has forced the play day scheduled for May 1 at AvCom Park Speedway to be pushed back a week.
The practice days will now be scheduled for May 8 and 15.
During the extra week, crews will have time to put the finishing touches on the speedway.
A work weekend has now been scheduled for May 1 and 2. The catch fence and some other little things will be completed this weekend.
