Slocum 50 to open Deery Series at 34 Raceway

Saturday, March 14th, 2009

The 1st Annual “SLOCUM 50″ IMCA Deery Brothers Latemodel Series race to be held Saturday, April 11, 2009 at 34 Raceway… honoring the late two-time IMCA Latemodel Track Champion, Brent Slocum & his “High Five” Racing Team.
It’s been a long time coming, said Brad Stevens, one of Slocum’s best friends.  We want to keep his memory alive and give back to his fellow latemodel competitors.”  Slocum, who tragically died at 34 Raceway, June 11, 2005 in an accident in the pits, was a well known latemodel driver to the Deery Brothers Series.
High Five Racing has worked hard prospecting business owners, along with many friends and family, collecting funds to pay-out an additional $6000, above and beyond the current Deery Brothers purse pay-out.  “By adding the additional $6000 to the purse, this will allow Brent Slocum’s home-track, 34 Raceway to host the two highest paying Deery Brothers Summer Series races” says Brad Stevens of High Five Racing.  The two Deery Brothers racing events scheduled at 34 Raceway, one now being named the 1st Annual “SLOCUM 50″ IMCA Deery Brothers Latemodel Summer Series and the other at the end of the season, “THE PEPSI USA IMCA LATEMODEL NATIONALS”.
“We are excited to host this commemorative event, says Amy Laue, owner and promoter of 34 Raceway.  Brent Slocum was a fierce competitor and a great guy and for his family, sponsors & friends to want to keep his memory alive in this great racing community, we are honored and proud to be apart of it!”
Along with the additional $6000 added to the already $10,450 purse, for each grandstand admission ticket sold for the event, 34 Raceway will take $1 of each tickets proceeds and start a “SLOCUM 50 Scholarship Fund” to be awarded to area high school students.  Details on scholarship applications will be provided in the near future by visiting www.34RACEWAY.com
And if that isn’t enough excitement for one night… half of the 50/50 ticket money collected that night will also be dispersed to the “SLOCUM 50 Scholarship” fund.  Exciting news for this racing community!
Included in the night events will be the IMCA Modifieds and the 1st of 6 4 Cylinder “Dash For Cash” series.
If there are businesses, drivers, crews or fans interested in making a donation to the “SLOCUM 50 Scholarship Fund”  please contact Brad Stevens at 319-759-9558 and mark your calendars to attend 34 Raceway on the night of Saturday, April 11, 2009 for this commemorative event!  Pit gates open at 4:30, Grandstands 5:00 and racing action begins at 7:00.  Adult grandstand admission $15, seniors & students $13.
