COLUMBUS JUCTION, Iowa (July 16, 2010) – An exciting IMCA Stock Car feature kept fans on the edge of the seats as Columbus Junction’s, Billy Faler took the checkered flag. Jason Hartman, Muscatine (hobby stocks), Bill Whalen, Riverside (4 cylinders), Paul Hallet, Muscatine (mod lites) and Daniel Brockert, Grandview (modifieds) also got repeat wins on the night as racing action continues at CJ Speedway.

Jason Hartman, Muscatine, took the lead on the first lap of the hobby stock feature but was challenged throughout the race by Wapello’s Blaine Dopler. A caution on the final lap was the last thing Hartman wanted with Dopler knocking on his door. The green, white, checkered finish was a chance for Dopler to get his first hobby stock win. But it wasn’t to be as Hartman would pull away at the end for the win.

Thirteen cars set the field for the mod lite feature with Michael Dominguez, Lone Tree and Evan Epperson on the front row. Dominguez would take the early lead working to hold off Rob Guss and Justin Buchholz early on. On lap six of the ten lap feature Guss went to the outside and Paul Hallet to the inside of Dominguez to get past the leader with Guss taking the lead. Guss led the field for the next two laps before Hallett went to the inside passing Guss in turn four for lead number three. Hallett went on to pull away at the end for his second straight win. Guss finished second and Justin Buchholz would finish third.

Wapello’s Geoff Theobald has won the last two three 4 cylinder features at CJ Speedway, could he make it four? Bill Whalen, Riverside, wasn’t going to let that happen. Whalen took the lead from Darin Smith on lap four of the eight lap feature but would constantly have to work to stay ahead of Theobald as they raced bumper to bumper for the next three laps. By lap eight Whalen was able to put some space between him and Theobald and would take the checkered flag for the third time this season. Theobalds quest for a fourth straight win was stopped as his settled for second followed by Jordan Tipps and Cory Sheetz.

The IMCA Stock Car race was a thriller with fifteen cars in action for their feature race of the night. It was a battle for the lead throughout the fifteen laps with Faler taking the early lead on the first lap. But right behind him was Wapello’s Darin Ealey. Ealy and Faler raced bumper to bumper seeing challenges from Rich Vogt, Nathan Wood and last week’s winner, Tad Payne, Muscatine. On lap six, Ealy tried the inside of Faler but would be unable to complete the move. Come lap eleven, Nathan Wood would get past Ealey for the second spot and then took over the lead on lap twelve. But his lead wouldn’t hold when Faler would get it back on lap thirteen. Faler continued to hold off Ealey who moved back into second for the remaining laps edging out the win by a 1/2 car length at the finish line. The fifteen lap, fifteen car, flag to flag win was Faler’s first this year.

Grandview’s Daniel Brockert took the checkered flag for the second straight week in the modified division gaining a nearly 1/2 track lead over the field by mid way through the ten lap feature. Mark Winkel, Letts, held off Doug Pratt, Kalona to finish second.

Point race action will continue this week, Friday, July 23 and you won’t want to miss the Corn Belt Clash Late Model Series coming to CJ Speedway, July 29 during the Louisa County Fair. The $2000 to win late model event is drawing some of the best late models drivers in the Midwest. Don’t miss it.
