For 34 Raceway
BURLINGTON, Iowa (July 17, 2010) –  Point race action continued at 34 Raceway last Saturday, July 17 with five classes of cars taking to the track on a warm (to say the least) summer evening. Four of the five classes saw drivers getting their first wins of the season at the 3/8 mile including Jason Perry, Payson, Il., (late models), Dave Warth, Danville (stock cars), Ray Raker, Danville (hobby stocks) and Matt Strassheim,West Burlington (4 cylinders). Scott Hogan would also get a win in the modified division,  his second this  season.
The I-Wireless/Louisa Communications 4 Cylinders returned to 34 Raceway for Series Number 4 with West Burlington’s Matt Strassheim getting the win. After a sixth place finish in the late model feature, Strassheim climbed into the #64 4 cylinder of Randy Foor Racing. Strassheim took the lead and would pull away from the field early on. Nathan Chandler moved into the second spot on lap six following a red flag restart but wouldn’t be able to catch Strassheim who took the checkered flag in his first ride in a 4 cylinder.

Another nice field of cars were on hand with the IMCA modifieds taking to the track for the first feature of the night. Seventeen cars set the field for the modified twenty lap main event with Lonnie Heap and Darin Thye on the front row. Heap took the early lead with Thye dropping out in the first few laps. Dennis LaVeine moved into second and would try for the lead in turn three on lap ten. LaVeine got the lead but moving up through the field was Scott Hogan. Only a cars length would separate the two with just two laps to go. But on lap nineteen, LaVeine would slow on the back stretch and come to a stop in turn three  as Hogan went around for the lead.  The yellow would set up a green, white, checkered finish and the field closed up. But Hogan was too fast on this night and went on to get his second win this year followed by Rich Smith, Davenport, who finished second.

Coming up:

After some struggles getting the first three laps in, the IMCA Stock Car feature saw Danville’s Dave Warth getting his first win since 2005. Derek St. Clair, Donnellson, was working on his first stock car win this season at 34 Raceway leading the twenty car field for the first eight laps of the twenty lap race. Warth would get by St. Clair for the lead on lap nine and had to work to hold off New London’s Jeff Mueller. The top three put on a show for the crowd as they battled for the lead but Warth would hold on to take the checkered flag. Mueller settled for second and St.Clair would finish third.

Jason Perry, Payson, Il, took the lead from Jay Chenoweth, Wapello on lap eight of the twenty five lap IMCA Late Model and went on to get his first win ever at 34 Raceway. Perry took the lead on lap eight but moving up through the field was  Rob Toland. By lap nineteen the two would pull away from the field and Toland closed in on Perryand a cars length separated the two with just two laps to go. Toland would try to pass Perry in turn one but couldn’t complete the move and Perry went on to take the checkered flag by two car lengths.

Danville’s Ray Raker, led from start to finish in the twenty one car, fifteen lap hobby stock feature. As the leader encountered lap traffic on lap thirteen, Tanner Thomann was on his tail. But Raker would hold off Thomann in a close finish at the end for the win.
