Rules set for 4-cylinder ‘Break Ice not Hearts 50′ at LCS

DONNELLSON, Iowa (Dec. 23, 2011) – Preparations continue for the first “Break Ice not Hearts 50” at Lee County Speedway. The event is scheduled to hit the likely froze speedway, Saturday, Feb. 11, 2012.
Rules will be simple as IMCA Sport Compact rules will be followed from the aspect of car type and power plant type. This means no variable valve timing type power plants will be allowed. Tire rules will be open outside of no tire wider than a 60 series tire. Also, no studded tires will be allowed.
Besides those basic rules, safety rules will be strictly enforced. If any person who wants to participate in the event has a question about their car being legal, please feel free to contact promoter Dewain Hulett at 309-331-3804 or by e-mail at promoter@leecountyspeedway.com.

Smith, Hale purchases Pitside Parts

Offers special $80 deal on Raceceivers
DONNELLSON, Iowa – Levi Smith and Nicole Hale completed a deal late last month to purchase the parts business owned by Terry and Harry Hoenig – Pit Side Parts.
The business will remain in Donnellson, Iowa, but will be run as Pitside Parts, according to Smith.
Plans are to keep the business mobile, with the idea of being on hand at area racetracks throughout the summer. Smith will also have the parts business available during none racing days at his residence.

“For my goals, the parts bus was no longer pratical,” Smith said. “After long talks and looking we purchased a white 28′ enclosed trailer.

Clauson enters 2nd Battle at the Center

Du Quoin’s Mini Magic Mile to host event Dec. 17
DU QUOIN, Ill. (Nov. 29, 2011)—Open-wheel star Bryan Clauson has entered the POWRi Lucas Oil National Midget Series’ second annual Battle at the Center on Dec. 17 at the Mini Magic Mile at the Southern Illinois Center.
Clauson has won the USAC National Championship, for the driver with the most points in 25 events in Midget, Sprint Car and Silver Crown Series, and the USAC Mopar National Midget title the past two seasons. The 22-year-old from Noblesville, Ind., had three wins in six races in POWRi National Midgets in 2011. Clauson also had four top-five finishes and five top-10s in six Firestone Indy Lights races in 2011.

Springsteen reigns as first champion at Super Nationals

Great season continues with first Deery win
BOONE, Iowa (Sept. 5) – A night with many firsts ended with Colby Springsteen in victory lane Monday at Boone Speedway.
Springsteen led the last 10 laps in winning the Deery Brothers Summer Series feature, on opening night of the IMCA Speedway Motors Super Nationals fueled by Cenex.
The $2,000 victory was Springsteen’s IMCA Late Model tour career first. He’d started third, dropped back as far as eighth, then took charge after race-long leader Justin Reed came up lame and second-running Terry Neal exited on a lap 41 caution. 

Schatz triumphs for fifth Nationals title

KNOXVILLE, Iowa (August 12, 2011) – Donny Schatz of Fargo, North Dakota grabbed his fifth Knoxville Nationals title on Saturday night.  The Tony Stewart Racing #15 was flawless after starting fifteenth in the 50-lap main event.  The win paid Schatz $150,000, and was his mind-numbing tenth finish of either first or second in the last twelve years at the biggest event in sprint car racing.  All have come with J&J Chassis and Ron Shaver Engines.

Dobmeier claims night 2 at Nationals

KNOXVILLE, IA (August 11, 2011) – Mark Dobmeier won a battle with Jason Meyers to take night #2 of the 51st Annual Goodyear Knoxville Nationals on Thursday night.  The Grand Forks, North Dakota driver piloted the Lunstra/Dobmeier #13 machine by Meyers on lap 14 and never looked back for his eighth career win at the famous half-mile.
Misfortune hit the pole-sitter for the main event, when Wayne Johnson had something break in his front end, sending him into the turn one wall before the green could be thrown.  He was uninjured, but done. 

Swindell wins night 1 at Knoxville Nationals

KNOXVILLE, Iowa (August 10, 2011) – The “Experienced Veteran” vs. the “Young Gun” was on display on the opening night of the 51st Annual Goodyear Knoxville Nationals Wednesday.  Sammy Swindell was running the Nationals before Davey Heskin was born, but the two put on a show that fans will remember for some time.  In the end, it was Swindell in Victory Lane, grabbing win #47 at the famous half-mile.  Swindell also emerged as the high-point getter with 490 points, and assured the Germantown, Tennessee driver of a starting spot close to the front for Saturday night’s championship event.

Larson wins Ultimate Challenge

OSKALOOSA, Iowa (August 9, 2011) – Kyle Larson doesn’t consider himself a “non-wing” driver, but the Elk Grove, California 19 year old won’t convince the fans who have seen him in action lately.  His latest win came at the Casey’s General Stores Ultimate Challenge presented by Searsboro Telephone Company at the Southern Iowa Speedway in Oskaloosa, Iowa Tuesday night.
Larson hooked up with the Hoffman Racing #69 team and it immediately paid dividends as the winner of last week’s Belleville Midget Nationals swept his heat, his qualifier and the 30-lap main event handing the team their first win since May of 2010.  The wait was worth it as the win paid $15,000.

Swindell three-peats at Front Row Challenge

OSKALOOSA, Iowa (August 8, 2011) – Sammy Swindell won his third straight Front Row Challenge, but this one was the most lucrative, as the Germantown, Tennessee driver netted $10,000 for the All Star Circuit of Champions win.  Swindell led the duration of the 25-lap feature in the Big Game Treestands #1 sprinter to claim the 15th running of the Musco Lighting Front Row Challenge over the 39 cars signed in on Monday night at the Southern Iowa Speedway in Oskaloosa, Iowa.
Swindell earned the right to start on the pole after winning the “King of the Hill” match race over fast-timer, and new track record holder, Brad Sweet.  Sweet drove the Kasey Kahne Racing #9 to a lap of 15.084 seconds on the half-mile in qualifying to earn a Weld wheel.  The lap broke Cale Conley’s year old record of 15.222 seconds.  Both drivers refused the “Front Row Challenge” and started up front in the feature.

Bacon sweeps USAC Knoxville Non-wing Nationals

KNOXVILLE, Iowa (August 7, 2011) – With another great crowd on hand, Brady Bacon was without peer at the third running of the USAC Knoxville Non-wing Nationals on Sunday night at the Knoxville Raceway.  Bacon posted quick-time, won his heat and the feature.  It was the Broken Arrow, Oklahoma driver’s first win at a track in which he has played the bridesmaid on a few occasions.  It came aboard a XXX Chassis with Wesmar power and was worth $5,000.  Chad Huston was also a first-time winner, as he picked up the companion 305 sprint car main event win.
